Our today’s One Funnel Away story comes from the heartland of the US. I’m so excited to welcome Kathy Walls on the show, a serial entrepreneur and digital marketing coach.
With over 15 years of entrepreneurial experience, Kathy’s journey so far has been just incredible. Before taking the One Funnel Away Challenge, she’d already had amazing success with e-comm and built up a retail business to million dollars in revenue.
Still, throughout her career, Kathy Walls has been battling a mindset virtually omnipresent in success stories across industries. A nasty thing better known as the impostor syndrome.
After years of struggling with this type of debilitating mindset, Kathy has developed a sophisticated understanding of the phenomenon. Fortunately, she also figured out how to overcome it once and for all. Join us as we explore what urged Kathy to challenge herself further after each successful milestone and keep coming back for more.
What Drove Kathy Walls to Take the One Funnel Away Challenge?
It’s very challenging to put Kathy’s journey into words. So far, she has tested herself in so many different disciplines, often at the same time. At one point, Kathy found herself trying to run her printing business while going to school to get an accounting degree, parenting two teenage kids, and working 70 hours a week. It just sounds like standing in the middle of a hurricane.
You won’t be surprised to know that at times she’d close up shop in efforts to regroup. And with everything she experimented with, she always seemed to shy away from the technical stuff. It was one of the crucial barriers she had to overcome to get to where she is today. As luck would have it, right around the time she changed her mind, she ran into a face that introduced her to the wonderful world of ClickFunnels and the One Funnel Away Challenge. It was, of course – yours truly!
Kathy decided to dive into unexplored territory because she always had that entrepreneurial drive and want. Sometimes, her entrepreneurial spirit would get her in situations where she felt overwhelmed. But that was just how things went, and it was all a part of a very familiar cycle. She kept coming back every single time, more determined than ever.
Your Goals Will Evolve as You Continue to Grow
Kathy has recently been contacted by a person who asked if they could use one of her old Facebook posts for their eBook. Since it was an excellent advertisement opportunity, she was happy to give permission.
But the whole situation brought her attention to one of the older posts she had made back in February of last year. In it, Kathy had listed all of her goals and was stunned to see how much things have changed. Only a year had passed, but she grew so much that the goals she once held for herself seemed naive and unrecognizable.
“I evolved because I noticed, and I listened to what people want from me.” – Kathy Walls
The entrepreneurial journey is about transformation as much as it is about trying to become more successful. To achieve a particular goal, you first need to become a person that’s capable of attaining it. Kathy Walls was able to look back at her list of goals and witness how much they evolved in a way that reflects her growth.
How Kathy Walls Got Over Her Impostor Syndrome
All of her achievements in the affiliate marketing and e-comm world have helped Kathy Walls build quite a reputation for herself. But in life, a frequent companion of success is something more popularly known as the impostor syndrome. It is a feeling that we’re not worthy of our success and that it’s just a matter of time when everything will start crumbling down.
For Kathy, this pattern of thinking was such a familiarity that she was able to acquire a very delicate understanding of where it came from. Luckily, she also figured out how to let it go.
“Impostor syndrome is what we end up having because we don’t have that 100% faith in us, and we keep pushing ourselves out.” – Kathy Walls
Getting into coaching has played a big part in how Kathy Walls got over her impostor syndrome. The guidance she now provided for people and the change she brought into their lives became a source of strength she could always count on in moments of self-doubt.
When you realize you know more than you think you do, everything starts clicking into place. The confidence and the peace of mind you get as a result is what makes you unstoppable.
In just over 14 months, Kathy created a sizeable following, she was approached to co-author three books, and she landed a speaking engagement in Vegas. It just goes to show what happens when you learn how to get out of your own way.

The One Funnel Away Challenge was exactly what I needed to actually ‘finish’ a project I had been working on for years. It’s so easy to put stuff off, isn’t it? Well lucky for us we get access to some genius marketers and entrepreneurs through this challenge. They give us the formula and work with us to go through it... so there’s no excuses anymore. Can’t wait to hear more stories of this from Steve! Right now I’m actually building up a funnel for my Juggling Video Course and will be re-doing the OFA Challenge to make sure I finish it in time. - WhosChrisHughes

imposter syndrome is what we end up having because we don't have that hundred percent faith in us, even though we keep pushing ourselves out. And once that clicked for me that everybody has it. I do know what I'm doing. I do know what I'm talking about. And I have people telling me, "Hey, because you told me this, I'm able to do that." You know, and once that clicked for me, I've been unstoppable.

The hiccups, the ups and the downs, all the things that went through in order to actually finally make it and today I have a special guest on with me today. Kathy Walls. Very excited to have you on, welcome to the show!
Kathy Walls 1:31
Thank you so much. I'm excited to be here. You've been one that I've been following for quite a while.
Steve Larsen 1:36
Oh, great. It's good to have you on, I... You know, for everyone just who's on here right now. Could you just tell us about yourself, just a little bit. Where you from? What you do?
Kathy Walls 1:45
I am from middle Missouri, you know, in the heartland of the US, and I tell you what online has been where it's at for me for quite some time. So I started a long time ago, actually with the entrepreneurial bug. My husband did like real estate and all that stuff, so we kind of had that feel and stuff. But we wanted to do our own thing, right? I think a lot of people have that will and that want. And we were in our middle 20s and we actually got our first taste a real entrepreneurship with a brick and mortar, and became cellular agents for a local company. And within 18 months, we grew that business into over a million dollars in sales, and we didn't know what we were doing. Right.
Steve Larsen 2:34
It sounds like you did.
Kathy Walls 2:36
When you're like, "What, what are we doing?" We had two small kids, so we were just kind of like, scared, but we were doing it. And then you know, you think oh, I made it right. And then the economy started to shift on us. And when that started to shift, we have seen the decline and we got out. Not without being unscathed, of course, but we got up. So what happens whenever you fail you like get scared, right? And when you have two small kids on top of it, we were away from home, we got scared, we ran back home. And then my husband started doing tile and hardwood surfaces installations. And you know, because he's very artistic. So he was like, Okay, I want to do that. And what do normal people do whenever they're, they're running scared. I went back to school. So back to school, and I got my degree in accounting and business because I thought that was going to be the safe play. You know, we were kind of nervous and scared. And so I worked tax and accounting for five years, but I was so unhappy with what I was doing, but I was scared. I didn't know what to do, right. And my husband came home one day and said, Hey, so so and so wanted to know if we can print on a tile, and I'm like on a tile. He goes, Yeah, just a six by six tiles. He wants to tractor on it. And, you know, in the entrepreneurial spirit, what do we do we find the solution, right? Yeah, somebody wants something, we're gonna get it. And then he was like, let's try it out. And so we do our research, we come across a thing called sublimation, which I'm pretty sure no print on demand stuff. We bought $1,000 worth of equipment for a six by six. And so started our entrepreneurial journey into e-comm. And that was that was about oh, I don't know 810 years ago. And yeah, so then people think, Oh, my gosh, oh, yeah, she got a second business. She's, they're gonna do it. Right. And I thought I didn't know anything. I didn't know we need to know about SEO, you know, on you know, when you have a brick and mortar, you don't have to worry about the online stuff of keywords and all that stuff to get noticed and seen. So I just started throwing thing you know, we're like, whatever. Can we print on so we found some stuff, and we threw it on eBay and we thought, Okay, we got listings will be found it's okay? And that wasn't the case. Mind you. I was working 70 hours a week during tax season...
Steve Larsen 5:13
With the other business?
Kathy Walls 5:14
On the other business and then working a full-time job. And then my husband had his full-time business. My kids were young teens, you know, like 1213 ish, you know, and I was going to school full time to try to figure this out. And I gave up, I'm like, we got a sale here and there. just gave up. Yeah, I can't do this anymore. I just, I don't want to waste my time and try to get these kids through school, get myself, you know, my degree finish and go to work all the time. And I closed the door to our printing room. We just closed, closed it. I was like, I can't do this. Yeah. My husband was like, Well, if you need to take a break, take a break. I'm going to still do some research and whatnot. And I'm like, Okay, come on. I'll take a break and I had another tax season go through, which is if anybody in the tax season or tax office and you see them, you know that they're going bald, you know, it's a rough gig, right? Just a crappy crappy day and I went in, I sat down on the floor, and I had all this stuff. And I'm like, there has to be a way. There has to be away and there was, I just dove in, I learned. And then before you knew it, I learned keywords and SEO and my husband built our sites. And then I went on Etsy, this little platform called Etsy if anybody's ever heard of it. And I made over six figures, in no time because I learned to niche down I learned to do my own designs. I learned to do all this stuff. My son taught me Photoshop. Mind you, he was 1213 show me how to do Photoshop. Yeah, just utilizing who I had in front of me, right? The rest is history. I mean, I, we made it and I got bored again. Is that like crazy? Because you're like, everybody's like, What are you? Crazy? You know,
Steve Larsen 7:09
Not crazy. No, it's part of the bug, that's the other side of the same coin.
Kathy Walls 7:13
Right. I felt like I was getting to a point where I couldn't do anymore and more than what I was doing so and I didn't know about, you know, like the platforms and ClickFunnels and stuff like that. I didn't know anything about them. My husband did the technical side, right? So I was more of the design, friendship, get it out, you know, and market the stuff. And I remember one day, I was on YouTube and I came across this fella named Steven Larson Have you ever heard of him? It was right before the first One Funnel Away Challenge came out and I was like hmm okay, I might I maybe I can, you know still do my econ but find you know, this affiliate marketing, kind of learn a little bit more about that. And, you know, kind of just grow as an online marketer right? Still do what I do is I make good money doing that, and I can't my husband came home from work and I said, Hey, so I found this thing called ClickFunnels, and they're having this One Funnel Away Challenge, right? And he's like, Oh, yeah, we've had ClickFunnels for four months. It's a software for building, you know, like building websites. He didn't know. Like, we're just paid for it. We don't know anything about it. I'm like, really, I didn't even know he had it. And I so I just opened it up. And I built my first funnel without knowing what I was doing in like, two hours, just kind of slaps It was not pretty, you know what, I didn't know what I was doing. I was just playing with software, and then on a liking, and I was like, I'm gonna do this and he's like, go right ahead. So I think... It is I mean, I I know a lot of people see me now and they're like, oh, man, she's already been She's doing really well. But my journey wasn't always doing very well you know, it made it and then we lost it and we made it then we lost it and then we did some and we didn't do anything with it. You know, there was a lot of stuff in between there. You know, those were just the highlight reels of it. I like to be transparent when I'm talking to people and let them know. But whenever I came into the One Funnel Away, I was thinking, Okay, I'm just going to do I was really funny. Somebody showed me a post. I did the One Funnel Away Challenge first time, I didn't know what I was going to do, because I did not want to do ECAM I wanted to push myself outside of my box, right? Kind of my comfort zone. So I knew I wanted to do something with affiliate marketing and I remember the last week when you say, okay, open up and put everything we did the 123 you know, put it inside there and I'm like, I'm sitting in my office. I don't have an idea what I'm Want to do? I just kind of was listening and learning and writing notes and everything and my daughter came in and she's like, What's the matter? Because she saw our stress and like, I don't even know what I'm gonna do with this, but I want to be featured on his thing at the end of the week, which I was it because I wasn't ready. She was like, why don't you do some with your dogs? Could you get I just took a picture of my dog. It was in my lap at that time. And I'm like, okay, I can do that. So I create a Facebook page for my dogs, upload pictures and videos. I get 1400 people in almost in my group was like 1200 at that time in eight days. Oh my gosh, yeah. Eight days, run an ad at Facebook ad to the page so I can even do engagement. And then I thought what am I going to do for a funnel, so you know that I cannot stand that big flashing arrow in the funnel that is Given but I used it because I didn't know any better. And I put in everything in and I do a register to have your dog a chance for your dog or animal to be featured in The Avengers of bear Molly calendar. Oh clever. Yes So I did that but then I went into the sales page and I sold them a calendar I sold a second calendar and then our for the bump and then upsell was a dog pet mat, you know, for their, their food and stuff to sit on. Which I can make because I have the printing business right. And the next upsell was a dog mom cup. So in I ignite this and because of time constraint because we're in November at this point in the challenge, right?
Steve Larsen 11:52
It's like a year ago.
Kathy Walls 11:53
Yeah, it was a year ago. Yeah, I get 220 emails in 8 days and in sales, but then I didn't understand that I could send them straight over into the back into the funnel. I didn't understand all that stuff. So I was just making Facebook sales off of the rest of the stuff. It was crazy. I were just sitting there in two seconds. She goes, why don't you just and I'm like, Okay, so now I can resell these people. And now this page is growing. And I have constant I mean, I've 87% activity in this page for pets. I mean, who doesn't like sharing their pets? Right? Yeah. So that's how I first started...
Steve Larsen 12:36
Specifically the dog lovers. And then he said, "Hey, enter for a chance to get in and get your dog featured in the calendar. By the way, you want to buy the calendar?" and then you do a pet mat. Right? It was a cup, you said?
Kathy Walls 12:48
Well, just a mug, a coffee mug. It said dog mom on it.
Steve Larsen 12:52
That's awesome! What happened after that?
Kathy Walls 12:56
So after that, came my e-comm. Remember, you know, Christmas holiday rushes was going on while I was trying to finish this first funnel and in knowing didn't get all that done. So then I'm like, Okay, I gotta put the other stuff away for a minute I have to get through this holiday season, I have to do it. And so I took this second One Funnel Away the challenge, cuz I was more prepared, right? Yeah, I'm like, I have nine...
Steve Larsen 13:23
People take it several times that are successful with it.
Kathy Walls 13:25
Right? They do. I did it five times. And it wasn't just because I mean, because at that point, I had a plan. I had a plan. I'm going to help people because I had a lot of people whenever you get into the group and the community, they're like, lost and I knew some of these answers. And I'm like, Oh, hey, I know these answers. Right? And so I started helping people and helping people and they're like, Hey, where can I find you? Well, I didn't have anything before because I help you know, my products were out front. I didn't need a Facebook group. I didn't need to put me out there? It was I put my products out there. And so I they were like, Where can I follow you and I started group. And then it just keeps going and keeps going and keeps going. And then I did a beta course run my own stuff because I've become, I've evolved so much in a year, just opening myself up into this community.
Steve Larsen 14:21
What do you mean by that? Because that's one of the biggest things I see. But it's hard for me to say that without somebody going to Steve Are you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, I mean by that because that's huge.
Kathy Walls 14:32
It is. Because whenever I look back, I had somebody asked, Can I take some of your posts and put them in a book and ebook and with a whole bunch of other people? And I'm like, you know what? Sure. I mean, that's free advertising for me, right? I mean, full say no. Well, one of them was from my posts back in February. That said, what my goals were. And my goals were to, I mean, I was so focused on doing like me coming into comma club winner with affiliate marketing in actually I even wrote you were going to walk Eric, you were going to announce it on the stage because you're the one that opened me up to this whole new idea right? So all of this is on there. And whenever I looked at this last week, actually because he showed me what he pulled, I'm like, Oh, my gosh, my goals aren't even that's not even my goals anymore. It was like a naive way to look at things right. I mean, it was still a great thing to do. But it was kind of naive. But I wanted to go in originally just to do affiliate marketing so I can get away from a lot of the hands-on e-comm stuff not knowing that this stuff could help me with the econ. What happened to me from February to December is I still do my econ I don't focus so much on affiliate marketing even though I you know, included inside of what I'm doing, but I have these this ability to teach to coach it to show them I mean, because I did all my stuff without a mentor without any kind of guidance. You know, I didn't even know there was such a thing for what I was doing. And so I came into this space a year ago. And so I am evolved into this, basically, digital marketing specialists, you know, that helps people that are stuck and need to get unstuck or don't know where to start, or maybe they've already started and they don't know how to, you know, amp up to the next level. And I've had a lot of success doing that, and I actually enjoy it more.
Steve Larsen 16:33
Than what you originally were doing before this?
Kathy Walls 16:35
Yeah, which was, you know, selling stuff on which I still do e-commerce stuff, but, you know, I was looking at it just becoming an affiliate marketer, and that's all I was wanting to do. And I was gonna make my millions doing that and I didn't have to worry about coming up with my own stuff. But I evolved because I noticed and I listened to what people are wanting from me and what you are taking away from me and that's where Catalyst Genius came.
Steve Larsen 17:02
Kathy Walls 17:03
Steve Larsen 17:04
Yeah, that's huge. Because I'm glad you brought up the whole transformation part of it. It's the hardest part. It is that, you know, it's the models are very much the same. I mean, I'm still doing stuff I learned the first week I heard about internet marketing, but I'm a better driver. Yeah. So I brought that up, you know, what would you say is like the, what was the biggest like, what clicked? Oh, and now I know you transformed for sure. But what click business skills-wise, from all this journey?
Kathy Walls 17:33
I think what clicked most for me is I know more than I thought I did. It. Does that make sense? It's almost like having that imposter syndrome, which I call everybody has imposter syndrome. Because, you know, you don't feel like you're able to teach someone but you know, anyone at any point, right? Because what do I know? Right? I've only made six figures for somebody in the economy. But somebody over there probably made $2 billion. You know, what do I know? They don't know. Right? And once I realized in to realize that everybody's going to struggle, which you probably struggle with it, because why we're entrepreneurs and we push ourselves past our limits all the time, right? Ever we do that we're uncomfortable, even if you don't show it because we don't want anybody to know that we're uncomfortable, right? I was nervous to talk to you today, but I'm just going to do it, right. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm like, imposter syndrome is what we end up having. Because we don't have that hundred percent faith in us, even though we keep pushing ourselves out. And once that clicked for me that everybody has it. I do know what I'm doing. I do know what I'm talking about. And I have people telling me, hey, because you told me this, I'm able to do that, you know? Yo, once that clicked for me, I've been unstoppable.
Steve Larsen 19:00
That's so huge. I remember I think it was, I think it was about a year and working with Russell at the same realization. I know more than I thought I did you know, and because I struggled the exact same thing that shocks people when I say it, but we all go through everyone goes through, you know, like, yeah, yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, you learn this confidence, like, Wait a second, not only do I know it, then you get confident in it. And then there is nothing cooler to watch than an entrepreneur in momentum in there. Holy smokes. That's so cool. Yeah.
Kathy Walls 19:35
It does. It makes you unstoppable. Even the small wins. I like to hit the small wins. I'm not. You don't have to have the big wins, like the two comma club award, or you know, for people in this area. I always say celebrate every small win that you have. Because when you do that, your confidence boosts, you grow, you grow, you grow and then boom. I mean, one year ago, well... Fourteen months ago, I was behind my products. I had no following. No one knew me at all. And what happened? I now have a following. I've been asked to be in three books, co-author three books. I am in a joint coaching program with three other people. And I'm going to be speaking on a stage in Vegas next year.
Steve Larsen 20:21
Kathy Walls 20:23
Right? Because I got out of my own way.
Steve Larsen 20:26
Yeah, absolutely. Well, hey, what would be the final thing you'd give away, just as a closing here, you know, what would be the final thing that you would say to someone starting out?
Kathy Walls 20:34
Well, everybody says it but don't compare yourself to me, don't compare yourself to Steve or Tony Robbins... Whoever is in your lane, don't compare yourself to them. Because you don't see what's under the water. You know, you don't see the struggles up now. You can hear him all you want but you know, it's still... You still have that doubt that what you're going through and they've gone through so... And then keep going because think about it. If I didn't get too tired of my job, and when in that room and shut the door and wanting, you know,... Having that want to find it, you know, figure it out, I wouldn't be here right now.
Steve Larsen 21:11
Right? And in the middle of the... Kind of the crap, right you figure out your crap.
Kathy Walls 21:19
You know, dig through it... Exactly. Just don't give up. And don't go out and alone because I probably would have made seven figures versus six figures, if I would have had a little bit of guidance because I've wasted a lot of money. Just you know, trial and error.
Steve Larsen 21:34
Absolutely. Well, thanks so much for taking the time, Kathy. This has been awesome and I appreciate you doing this. And congrats on all of your success, you've been blowing up!
Kathy Walls 21:42
Thank you so much. I appreciate it very much.
Steve Larsen 21:44
Yeah, absolutely. Well, thanks so much. We'll talk to you later.
Kathy Walls 21:47
All right, bye.
Steve Larsen 21:50
All businesses need three things: leads, sales, fulfillment. That's exactly what ClickFunnels does. They're world-class at automating your leads, sales, and fulfillment. The best news is that it's only $97 a month and replaces the cost of the other tools I was using. Better yet, I don't need to be a coder. Because of that, I basically have the power of an entire tech team in my hand. So if you're asking yourself, "Steve, are you pitching me right now?" Yeah, 100%! Because of ClickFunnels I can focus on just being a marketer again. Everyone you're hearing on the show is using ClickFunnels, that's actually how we're all doing this. We call ourselves Funnel Hackers and I'm gonna invite you to become a Funnel Hacker like us by grabbing a free two-week trial at iloveclickfunnels.com. "But Steve, isn't two weeks, not long enough for me to do this?" I understand the fear but you have to know I actually built my first funnel during my own two week-trial of ClickFunnels. Week number one, I built a funnel. Week number two, I focused on sales and traffic. And by week three, my account was paid for by my customers, which made it free for me. You guys can do this. We want everyone to experience this power in their business. So as your host, I'm allowed to hook you guys up. Open any browser type in iloveclickfunnels.com, and grab your own free two-week trial, now.
