Struggling to find your audience? Today’s guest, David Needham knows exactly how hard it is to establish a voice that fills a niche. He has had several forays in the entrepreneurial space before finally landing on his current business.
Despite some initial setbacks, David has stayed committed to his goal of trying to figure out what audience he wants to serve. To supplement his income as he ventured out and tried various business opportunities, David took to driving for Uber. It helped keep his income steady when his other work was unpredictable but he noticed there were glaring issues in the rideshare community.
David Needham saw that there was a need that he could fill and decided to jump at the idea. He is in the process of putting together a course to support Uber drivers. His goal is to ultimately help them make more money on a per-ride basis and to diversify the methods in which they make their income.
His idea came from the question of how can drivers leverage the unique relationship they have of being a driver and having a passenger and use that time as an opportunity to make more money for themselves. David’s experience with the One Funnel Away Challenge helped him answer just that. He has been able to carve out a unique niche and find his place in the entrepreneurial world.
David Needham’s Journey to Entrepreneurship
David didn’t always know exactly what he wanted to sell or who he wanted to sell to. Like a lot of other entrepreneurs, he longed for the day where he was in charge of his financial future. His background in sciences led him to work for various biotech companies. While he enjoyed the work and startup atmosphere, he was left wanting as far as income. The companies he worked for couldn’t offer him a stable enough salary due to their limited funding and he struggled to move ahead.
From there he spent time working at a call center but was laid off after that company decided to relocate. At this point, he knew he needed to take a chance and venture out on his own. Initially, he became involved in affiliate marketing and started to learn drop shipping via eBay and Amazon.
He was able to take this new business from a part-time to full-time income but eventually had to deal with the ebbs and flows of the business. He was putting in tireless amounts of work for less and less money. At that point, he was splitting his time by also driving for Uber just to keep up.
“The moment I figured out who do I want to sell, what do I want to sell came easy.”- Steve Larsen
How David Needham Found His Audience Through OFA
Fed up with the state of his business, David Needham was still trying to find direction with where to go in his business. A friend of his introduced him to ClickFunnels and he decided to give it a shot. He started by reading DotCom Secrets and Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson and a fire was ignited. David did not have a background in business or marketing but knew he wanted to learn more so he signed up for the very first One Funnel Away Challenge.
From there he went on to Funnel Hacking Live and even took the OFA challenge for a second time just to improve his skills. That’s where he discovered the audience he wanted to sell to was the one he was spending a lot of time in. He saw the flaws in ridesharing and set out to solve them.
So many of the online Uber groups he was in constantly complained of dips in pay and issues affecting their income. Because he had been a driver for a while he had picked up on a few tricks along the way to help keep his pay steady and consistent. He now teaches others how to make more with each ride by being a rideshare business owner as opposed to just a driver. David Needham gives inside tips on how to increase rating as well as maximize earnings.
